U.K. will purchase a new C-17 Globemaster


The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has announced the intenion to purchase a new Boeing C-17 Globmaster, as part of a package of meassures to increase the operational effectiveness of the UK Armed Forces.
This aircraft is planned to enter in active duty in late 2008 or early 2009, and for this reason the desition will be made as soon as possible.
The Defense Secretary said: de Defensa mencionó: A sixth C-17 will provide a significant boost to our ability to transport troops and equipment quickly to wherever they are needed, particularly in support of our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In operationla duties, the actual C-17 fleet, has been used extensively by the UK, to trasnport militar equipment, including Chinook and Apache helicopters ad Tornado F-3 fighters.
Thay also has been used in an humatiarian role, delivering food and rescue equipment during SE Asia Tsunami and the earthquake in Pakistán.
Whith this new aircraft will be six C-17 in service with the UK armed forces, with base in RAF Brize Norton, in Oxfordshire.
